Clutter free

January 10, 2017

Cliff moved to Colorado in 2002 after retiring from The Air Force. Each day he takes a morning walk to soak in the beauty of his surroundings. Cliff keeps a photo journal where he records what he calls ‘illuminations’ that come to him in the mountains. He knows that this might be a stretch to […]

All in

January 10, 2017

Those who cling to first base will never know the exhilaration of victory. Even second base is not the goal. You must have a hunger to go all the way. It may require a head first slide at the plate and you might be out…but it’s the hunger that separates the champions from the pretenders.

Compassion

Everyone you’ll ever meet really is fighting a hard battle. Each person who crosses your path needs a little compassion. Matthew Kelly

Balance

January 8, 2017

If your nose is down to the grindstone rough… and you hold it down there long enough, Soon you’ll say there’s no such thing As brooks that babble and birds that sing Three things will all your world compose Just you, the grindstone and your darned old nose Anonymous

Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of a day saying, ‘I will try again tomorrow.’ Mary Anne Radmacher

Puzzles

January 7, 2017

Our daughter Carly put this puzzle together in about four hours with an assist from her mother. Yeppers…mom found spots for a handful of pieces in the last ten minutes. One thousand pieces. Had a very young cowboy embarked on this mission, it would have taken at least twenty hours. Wowser! Way to go, Carly!

Lesson learned

January 7, 2017

My dental hygienist has never been considered subtle. Brutally frank is more accurate. As we talked about the importance of flossing at the end of our recent appointment, she frowned when I said, ‘yes, it’s something I need to work on.’ Jen brought out a binder of photos to show the importance of respecting this […]

Kids

January 7, 2017

Every single child is gifted. And every single child has challenges. It’s just that in the educational system, some gifts and challenges are harder to see. And teachers are working on this problem. Lots of schools are working on ways to make all children’s gifts visible and celebrated. And as parents, we can help. We […]

Sam Sumyk is a French tennis coach who currently coaches WTA world number three and 2016 French Open champion GarbiƱe Muguruza. Muguruza started slowly today and has a history of being self critical and temperamental. Sumyk is allowed to coach on changeovers and obviously knows his player well. The court side microphone caught just a […]

Lost in space

Nick Kyrgios is readying himself for The Australian Open. Maybe not. Today, he was down a break in the first set against American Jack Sock. He crushed a forehand to the corner and sock floated a desperation forehand that was going twelve feet out. Absent minded Nick stood at the baseline and played a casual […]

Wisdom

January 5, 2017

The Tennis Channel is showing a match between Andy Murray and Nicholas Almagro from Spain. Murray wins the first set in a tiebreaker. Almagro is extremely talented but one wonders if he’s as mentally fit as Murray. I know, Murray continually talks negatively to himself and his coaches between points. But…when it’s point time, he’s […]
