Ed Wright is an avid tennis player who, at age 77, teamed with son Jody in our Saturday morning doubles league. Last fall, Ed was stricken with what he calls, “the Whammo.” His doctors call it a spinal stroke and Ed is being treated at the Craig Rehab Center in Denver. Recently, we received an e-mail from Ed which read,
“Hi all and heartfelt thanks to all of you who have phoned, carded, e-mailed and prayed for me.
Here’s the good news….Despite my stroke, I’m fine, both mentally and physically. I am a paraplegic and I can deal with that. My roommate here at Craig is a quadriplegic and has been for thirty years. Since he can deal with that then I can certainly handle my minor inconvenience. I am deep into rehab now and am lucky to be in the best facility in the world for spinal cord rehab. I have a release date of March 14 and at that point will be fully capable of living independently and will be no more of a burden to Lenaire than I was before the Whammo.
I intend to learn wheelchair tennis and perhaps sled skiing. I’ve already been to the National Stock show here in Denver and tomorrow evening Jeff will pick me up and take me to see Lila and Sophie in their school’s production of Grease. Can’t wait!
Again, thanks for your concerns and responses, you all are the greatest.
Wheelin’ in the wheelchair,
Ed
