“Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love.” Brene Brown

Trent

February 4, 2017

Trent is a unique child to say the least. He loves watching Seth Curry and The Golden State Warriors. They are his favorite team. The player he really idolizes is Lebron James. The youngster cries if the defending champs play west coast games that are past his bedtime. While watching Lebron and The Cleveland Cavs, […]

Progress

February 4, 2017

A very young cowboy attended a tennis teachers conference in Miami in 1983. Peter Burwash was one of the featured speakers and was viewed as a bit controversial at the time. In speaking about the forehand, he urged coaches to beware…that the standard eastern forehand grip would soon be very rare in pro tennis. Many […]

What matters

February 3, 2017

‘The only thing that makes people happy is spending time with people they are emotionally close with. Other things don’t make them happy; in fact, most of the things that our culture says should make you happy don’t, like a Rolex or a condo in Vail, this kind of car or that kind of job. […]

Hope

February 3, 2017

Even in the winter, in the midst of the storm, the sun is still there. Somewhere above the clouds, it still shines and warms and pulls at the life buried deep inside the brown branches and frozen earth. Gloria Gaither

Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go. Hermann Hesse

Dog sense

February 1, 2017

‘You think I’m taking a nap. No, I see you rushing around like your hair’s on fire. It’s like your middle name should be ‘pressed for time.’ If I could talk, I’d tell you to ease off a bit…that you seem to be your best self on walks with me. Especially those times when you […]

Oh my!

January 31, 2017

A very young cowboy drove to Pueblo yesterday to fish The Arkansas River. How neat to see a bald eagle on the trip and so glad I brought my camera. Even though the trout disregarded my offerings, some people seemed to do very well.

Wowser

January 30, 2017

One has to feel a bit sorry for these professional golfers. The first two weeks were spent in Hawaii and last week it was Torrey Pines, California. Here’s hoping they carry cameras with them.

Cwaaaazzzzy!

Kudos to Serena Williams for winning The Australian Open singles title and surpassing Steffi Graf’s all time major record. Congratulations to Venus for storming her way to the final by winning six matches at age 36. Amazing! On the men’s side, I hope you were able to see Roger and Rafa on Sunday. It was […]

Tennis legend

January 27, 2017

Chet Murphy was the longtime tennis professional at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. He was terrific. An accomplished player and author, one of his most popular books was the classic Tennis for Thinking Players. Mr. Murphy knew that players could easily get lost inside their own skulls and fall prey to paralysis by analysis. […]

Second thoughts

January 27, 2017

Rick decided to be a stay at home dad when Emily was born. He said it would be a one year gig until he returned to work. One wonders if he’ll keep that pledge.

Impeccable

January 27, 2017

Can you name this Grand Slam champion who still is winning doubles titles in her thirties? A hint…her first name is Martina and her last is not Navratilova. One of the most creative players ever, her technique on the volley is impeccable. What can you learn from her two handed backhand volley? The head of […]

Bravo

January 27, 2017

Most of our limits are self imposed. The easy thing is to listen to the voice of comfort and complacency. Bravo to those who, by their actions, rise above and turn the world upside down.
