Game changers

By Mike Hall, January 1, 2016

The first set was over in a hurry and your team feels out of sync. Here are seven things you can consider that honors that age old tennis maxim…..’never change a winning game but always change a losing one.’

1. Talk on the changeover re: the pressure is actually on your opponents to finish the job and they often relax after an easy first set.
2. Start serving the set with your most reliable server.
3. Play two back as receiver’s and lob a couple of service returns.
4. Exude a positive expectancy about this set by each being a cheerleader for the other and coming together after each point.
5. Play Australian formation to discourage a strong crosscourt return.
6. Stay focused on the next point and let the last one go.
7. Remember Vic Braden’s advice….”the net is a fortress and whoever controls the net wins the war/match.’
