The Tennis Dilemma

By Mike Hall, January 1, 2016

Your doubles team won the first set easily 6-2. Twenty minutes later you are down 4-1 in the second.

What happened?

An all too common human tendency…..we relax and take our foot off the gas pedal and hit the cruise control button. Simultaneously, opponents dig in and fight like junkyard dogs.

Put the two together and you have what former Clemson tennis coach Chuck Kriese called a ‘mo switch.’ Kriese said that momentum is the most powerful force in sports.

So, if you’ve tucked the first set away, BEWARE….keep the pedal to the metal and leave the cruise mentality behind.

Be solid in the first two games of the second and who knows….maybe the junkyard dogs will lay down for a nap.

The light is green….step on it, baby!
