Crunch time

Sixty-two and Forty-four.

Jerry West is the Hall of Fame basketball player from West Virginia who made the number 44 famous on the hardwood.

His nickname was Mr. Clutch due to his uncanny ability to come up big in the last seconds of important games.

Let’s hope he was watching last night as Shaun White took over the Mr. Clutch nickname at least for a day.

Alumu Hirano of Japan had taken the lead with an astounding score of 95.25 in the second round.

Let’s backtrack to the number 62. In 2017, White suffered a horrendous injury doing a double cork 1440 in New Zealand.

He required sixty-two stitches to stop the bleeding.

Well…to best the score of Hirano, Shaun would need to travel a a razor thin edge of risk/reward that would entail multiple 1440’s. It’s pretty hard to fathom the courage it took to lay it on the line in that final run.

The dude nailed it and won his third gold medal at age 31.

Maybe Jerry West was viewing the telecast and surely would agree that there’s a new Mr. Clutch in town.

Simply Amazing!
