In his prime, Michael Jordan Michael Jordan was shooting a free throw against The Denver Nuggets. After a few bounces of the ball, he closed his eyes and ‘Bingo’, chalk one up for the Bulls. That is just one example of unconscious competence. The feeling, so wired into Jordan after hundreds of thousands of attempts, was no problem at all. We’ve all had the same progression with the tying of shoes, typing, learning to ride a bike, and juggling. A very young tennis pro often references Pistol Pete Maravich as the greatest multi tasking athlete the world will ever see. (for verification, google Pistol Pete Highlights) He didn’t just emerge from the womb with such an array of uncanny skills. Sure, he was a bit of a basketball savant but the hours spent perfecting his skills was far beyond any of his peers. How many of you became so unconscious riding a bike that you could ride ‘no hands’ and close your eyes for a few seconds? The lesson in all of this….when something seems difficult at first, hang in there. It’s likely to become as easy as tying your shoelaces or riding a bike in time.
** for another example, google Picasso Jr Juggler (we’ll do a fundraiser to get him another outfit, but you won’t believe his talent)
