Grant was seventeen when he became involved with the wrong group of kids at school. By nineteen,he was heavily involved in drugs and had been arrested twice. While in rehab,he finally realized that it was now or never. A counselor named Barbara encouraged him to use his gifts in art and to begin a practice called morning pages which she’d been doing for years. She loaned him a book by Julia Cameron called The Artist’s Way and soon he was rising early each morning and writing three pages of streaming thought. Grant also began taking long, solitary walks in the foothills near his home in Boulder. In two months time he noticed a shift in his outlook. The artificial highs he used to crave no longer were appealing. He registered for art school and never looked back. Grant graduated with honors and now owns a successful graphic arts company that employs eight people. He still rises to do his daily writing and attributes much of his improved focus and creativity to walks in the woods.
** if you have creative friends,The Artist’s Way is a terrific gift
