Craig began speaking this morning about forgiveness. He talked about how everyone has experienced relational ‘dings’/ bumps in the road with family or friends. Craig said that he was ‘ridicuously rebellious’ in his teen years and that his father became obsessed with work and emotionally absent from the family. You could hear a pin drop when he spoke of his father’s death last spring and how this would be the first Christmas without him. The rift between Craig and his dad had been repaired with the help of the words from a friend….’the bitter root of unforgiveness has attached itself to your heart.’ Craig’s father was stricken with Parkinson’s but was eventually able to express his remorse over the tough times and his immense pride at the man his son had become. On the last day of his life, the father was in a coma-like state. Craig stood at his bedside and a remarkable thing took place. He slowly placed his hand on his dad’s chest….the man’s eyes popped open and tears streamed down his face as Craig said a final goodbye and told his dad how much he loved him. So what are the five toughest words….and who is there in your life who they might be shared with? They are: ‘I’m sorry…Please forgive me.’
