The DNO Concept

Angelique Kerber is The 2016 Women’s Singles Champion for The Ystralian Open. Seeded seventh, she was a long shot to defeat number one seed Serena Williams. How did she do it?

Kerber extended points with incredible hustle and wisdom. Stretched beyond the sidelines, she repeatedly put the ball back in play and frustrated the ultra powerful Williams.

The DNO theory stands for Defense-Neutral-Offense. In simple terms, it is the knowledge that going from D to O is very tough to do….it’s low percentage tennis. Kerber is an expert of getting back to neutral when stung by her opponent.

Some of the most telling points of the match (including match point) happened when Williams came to net and was forced into volley errors by wise pressing shots that dipped below net level.

How exciting to see new faces like Kerber and Canadian Milos Raonic (semi finalist) beginning to reach new heights. Fortunate are all of you who be heading for the sun of Indian Wells in a few weeks….you are going to be wowed by the level of play.

Keep The DNO concept in mind as you watch players shift to neutral and then step on the gas.
