Most of us, from that all important sixteenth birthday, have internalized the fallacious thought that…to get anywhere in life, one must constantly have their foot on the accelerator.
This pedal to the metal mentality surely drives folks to go after worthwhile goals and is critical for success. A rich and rewarding life rarely just falls from heaven into our lap.
But, if you return to the opening statement above, perhaps the key word is ‘constantly’.
Standard features on automobiles include gas pedals and brakes. Minus the brakes, chaos would ensue.
The more time I devote to healthy breathing that is slow and deep, the more it’s obvious that these ‘breath breaks’ take the foot away from the accelerator and helps recalibrate us…reawakens the slower, more introspective selves that, surely desire a vacation from our devices and distractions.
This morning, I awoke to the most peaceful inducing music ever heard. It spoke to me of breathing deeper…and slower and I complied for an hour.
It occurred to me that the music teamed with this breathing could be called a ‘soul massage.’
I’m going to finish the day with a similar routine remembering that even racehorses have reins.
