Ouch

By Mike Hall, July 22, 2018

Drew Goodman is the television voice of The Colorado Rockies baseball club.

In a broadcast today as The Rockies played The Arizona Diamondbacks, Goodman said that giving up runs with two outs is a very distasteful way to ‘press the ouch button.’

It made me think about the ouch button as it applies to tennis.

What is your ‘ouch button?’

Most players have developed a reliable serve over time.

Week after week on the lesson court, I hear players lamenting the inconsistency of their return of serve.

Vic Braden devised a terrific learning aid to help players be more consistent on returns. He’d have the player hold a racquet in each hand at the ready position. Vic would have the player pivot and notice that the racquets would stay relatively close together unless the racquet arm took a solo and proceeded into an excessive backswing.

With a little practice using the two racquet drill, a player should be able to tame the solo racquet arm and meet and greet the ball with more consistent results.
