A very young cowboy received this note from Angler’s All about a neat family in need.
Thomas “Scully” Garbutt is a legendary fishing guide from Punta Gorda, Belize. On June 25, Scully’s youngest son, Javohn, was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
When the happy and energetic 8-year-old began feeling sick, his parents drove him from thieir home in southern Belize to the hospital in Belize City. When doctors there diagnosed Javohn with a brain tumor, Scully and his wife, Doret, were shocked. They are doing everything possible to get Javohn the medical care he needs. And now, friends are stepping in to help.
One of our long time customers who is close to the family, has flown Scully, Javohn, and the whole family to Colorado Children’s Hospital. The hospital has offered to treat Javohn at a reduced cost. Even so, the hospital is requiring payment of $153,000 up front. Another $27,000 will be required to cover related expenses.
Scully is a full time fishing guide and Doret is a school teacher. They are both taking time away from work to care for Javohn and the rest of their family.
The Garbutts are an extraordinary family, with an uncommon caring spirit. They contribute so much to their community and make visitors feel like they are part of the family. Please keep Javohn and the Garbutt’s in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this and thank you in advance for any support you can offer.
