Tom thought he was blindsided when Amanda said she wanted a divorce. She declined to go to marriage counseling and moved across town with their six month old daughter Abigail. It had been two months now and Tom was seeing a therapist to help sort things out. He had eventually come to realize that he had been spending too much time at work and too many nights getting hydrated with his friends. Tom often comes to his ‘peaceful place’ where he listens to the gentle waves and watches the birds playing cheerfully in the sky above. One evening while there, he acknowledged that he was wrong. He called Amanda and left a message. Surprisingly, she returned his call the next evening. Tom told her that he had been doing a lot of soul searching lately…..that he started attending church again and hadn’t had a drink in six weeks. Amanda said that she was happy for him. He asked if she would be willing to meet him so he could look into her eyes and express what a fool he had been. A bit reluctantly, she said yes. When they met, she could see immediately that he had changed. He spoke with conviction about how he still loved her and the baby. The look in his eyes was exactly like the day he had proposed. Tom asked if it would be all right if he called again next week. Amanda said, ‘sure.’ A year later, they were reunited as a family and Tom took his girls to that ‘peaceful place’ where they shared ice cream cones. Amanda knew she had found her husband again when he got emotional speaking about this special place…..this place that led him back to the man he was always destined to be.
