A tennis student of mine related a story this week about her daughter.
The soon to be high school athlete was attending a sports camp to enhance her skills.
At one point, the coach yelled at her saying…’c’mon, my five year old could have made that play!!’
My reaction is really simple. If it happens again, counsel the youngster in advance to stand her ground with this statement.
‘I signed up for this camp to get better at my sport…to one day play on your high school team.
Does it bother you that your anger and negative coaching style will either drive me from the sport or cause me to enroll at a different school?’
**. Maybe the coach should enroll herself in a class at The Positive Coaching Alliance.
