Dr. Bob Rotella has authored close to a dozen books on golf and life.
My terrific high school basketball coach, Bob McKendry, suggested I pick up a copy of Dr. Bob’s book entitled Make Your Next Shot Your Best Shot.
I’m glad I did as it’s filled with tasty morsels. Since reading the excerpt below, I have also ordered his book Life Is Not A Game of Perfect.
Rotella writes that he worked a few summers growing up in camps that catered to kids with
various challenges.
“Those special needs students I worked with during those summers made the biggest impression on me. I learned a lot about attitude while teaching those kids.
They might have 99 out of 100 things going wrong in their life, but they would spend all day excitedly talking about the one good thing they were experiencing.
It was a marvelous ability.
It taught me to keep things in perspective, and I’ll never forget the lessons I learned from them.
It taught me about the power of perception and on focusing on what you have, rather than what you don’t have. Some of these young people were facing incredible odds against succeeding not only in sports, but in life. Yet, they had the most positive attitudes, and they didn’t care what other people thought of them.
They were focused on succeeding, no matter what it took. These kids placed no limits on themselves and chose to be happy and passionate about whatever they were doing.”
