Hillary never expected this. She and Matt began dating in their sophomore year and the two were nearly inseparable. After dinner one evening, they took a walk and Matt summoned up the nerve to tell his girl why he’d been acting a bit odd lately. ‘Hillary, you know that I love you and that you are the most amazing person I’ve ever met. This is By far the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do.’ He kissed her gently on the forehead and took a deep breath. ‘My dad has been transferred to Atlanta and we are moving there in June.’ Hillary began crying as Matt held her tightly. ‘It’s so unfair. I’ve felt so great about you….and us….and now this. It feels like someone just took off with my soul.’ They walked back to Hillary’s house and spent a long night speaking on the front porch. The two would see each other every day until the moving vans arrived. Matt and Hillary kissed and embraced for the longest time. They agreed that they would stay in touch via Skype and text.
Matt’s family made the twelve hour drive to Atlanta and he stared out the window for most of the trip. He texted Hillary and called as soon as they arrived. The call was emotional and he could tell she sounded lost. Matt promised that he would fly back in August for Rickie Barnes’ birthday bash but it didn’t seem to help. Hillary said that the new job at a Red Robin helped keep her mind occupied. But once work ended she felt lifeless. Matt promised to call every day and Hillary said she needed to go for a walk to sort things out.
August seemed like an eternity away and then what? So unfair and how long would it take to heal this heart so wounded and alone?
