I think it first came to me while watching NFL analysts dissecting the first half of a Jets vs. Steelers game.
Two out of the five experts talked using constant hand gestures to more emphatically make their points.
Did you ever wonder if you tied their hands behind them if they’d become mute and unable to talk?
It didn’t take long to figure that they were taught these hand signals…that there are schools that teach this distracting skill.
Could it be that these people practice at home in front of the mirror…that their spouses videotape them, and that, when performing in front of the mirror, they’ve placed 3” x 5” sticky notes on the mirror that say ‘You da Man’, ‘Girls Rule’, or ‘You’re Unstoppable’?
It’s not a stretch to think that there’s a playbook for hand gestures and that a graduation recital features a ten minute presentation where fifteen different gestures are necessary to get a diploma.
Let’s demand that these analysts give us the chance to rise from our butts and get the blood flowing with our hand jive before they get carried away with theirs.
By the way, why are five people needed to analyze NFL games?
