A Salt of The Earth Gentleman

By Mike Hall, October 21, 2026

Sally had recommended that I pick up a copy of the book Theo of Golden by Allen Levi.

Well, I did and just finished it this morning. It’s nearly 400 pages long and I can count with three fingers the other books read of similar length.

And to think, this is the author’s first book…and he really had no intention of publishing it.

Mr. Levi lives on a farm in Georgia and has been a lawyer, a judge, a farmer, an author, a composer and singer ….and, a fella who derives the most joy from sitting and reading to youngsters and mentoring a boy who is one of seven children living in poverty with a single mother.

One might think I’d had enough of him upon finishing the book but no.

I decided to hear him speak on a podcast and then another because he redefines the phrase ‘salt of the earth.’  He’s as interesting to listen to as Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana.

Hearing Mr. Levi speak of dropping everything to care for his brother in the last year of his life was emotional to say the least.  I’m excited to read The Last Sweet Mile about the love shared with his brother Gary.

The podcast can be found by searching for Connecting with Allen Levi at LMPC’s Staff Development Day.

If you’re too busy to listen to this then…you are just too busy as it’s fantastic.
