Wisdom

Graham called on Thursday and suggested we meet for lunch. Yesterday found us enjoying ribs and delicious brisket sandwiches at Moe’s BBQ on S. Broadway.

I told Graham that there’d been some very challenging days lately.

He related what his grandfather taught him after surviving the Depression and World War II where he was a POW for four years.

The wise man said his trials had taught him that life is sort of like carrying around a deck of cards in your back pocket.

You can choose to pick and play the ‘poor, poor, persecuted me’ card when you wake up in the morning or you can decide to slip it back into the deck. He said that he decided long ago in prison to arise and pretend to be a king.

The old man had seen far too many of his friends play the pity card and it never seemed to work.
