He was successful and forty-something
when throat cancer paid an unwelcome visit
Think again if you believe this story
has a sorry ending
No, it’s about hope and faith
and the power of people coming together
in times of crisis
Someone at his church started the ball rolling
and it picked up speed like an avalanche
rolling down a Colorado hillside
A group of friends presented Jeff with
a high tech miracle called a prayer pager
During the next few weeks, while attending
chemo treatments or soccer games at Banberry Park
He would feel the pager buzz on his belt
signaling another friend or parishoner praying
for his recovery
Thousands of messages sent in just a few
months by people who took the time to
express their care and concern
I heard that Jeff was doing better
and that he was grateful for the friends
and the pager that helped him on his comeback trail
I wish we all were equipped with a prayer pager….
that we’d be instantly aware of all the times friends
and loved ones offered prayers on our behalf
Perhaps it would convince us that He’s looking
out for us….that He’s with us….living in the hearts
of all who keep us in their thoughts and prayers
