Gretchen gazed wistfully at the skiers gliding down the slopes she had traversed last March. A freak accident and a torn ACL had sidelined her for months. Her rehab was arduous and doctors cautioned her to be patient as she regained her strength and confidence. It was difficult not participating in the sport she loved since the age of three.
Gretchen found inspiration in the stories of Picabo Street and Lindsey Vonn….her idols who had endured career threatening surgeries and yet returned to elite status. She vowed to hang in there and circled the date of February 1st. on her calendar. Nothing would stop her from returning to the slopes by that target date. It was still difficult to sit on the sidelines and watch….but having a clear cut goal emboldened her to give every bit of effort to make it happen.
