Well being

A book I’m reading inspired me to explore wells and how they operate.

This is what my advisor Renaldo found.

How the Refill Process Works
  • Groundwater Flow: When a pump draws water out of a well, it lowers the water level inside the pipe. Water from the saturated soil and rock surrounding the well naturally seeps or flows inward to replace it.[1]
  • The Cone of Depression: As water is pumped out faster than it immediately arrives, a temporary dip called a “cone of depression” forms in the local water table around the well base. [1]
  • Aquifer Recharge: The aquifer itself is replenished over time through the water cycle. Rain, snowmelt, and surface water seep down through the soil, sand, and rock to recharge the underground storage tanks.

A Man 2,000 years ago met a woman at a well and transformed her life. The parable (story) lives on to this day.

Perhaps. parables can still bring to life important life lessons for us all.

What if the ‘cone of depression’ noted above could be applied to children whose aquifer of joy and belief is influenced daily by friends and loved ones?  Is there a steady stream of positive comments pumped into the well to renew it or is there mud and debris tossed imprudently into the well that sours the water, stifles the spirit until the well seems dry?

Are we, as loved ones, not called to be wise stewards of the well?

What if we filled the well with heartfelt praise that replenishes and recharges the aquifer our loved ones value as dearly as the air they breathe?

Yes indeed, like the woman at the well, a parable might be a key to joy for those we love.

One might notice the clarity…the purity of the water drawn from a well meant to nourish the body and sustain the spirit.
