Learn from Learner

Centuries ago, Voltaire wrote that ‘the enemy of the good is the great’.

It’s doubtful but perhaps he was hoping to help tennis players win more points, games, and matches by playing within their capabilities.

Maybe he had a crystal ball and could see that tennis and golf equipment would evolve and drastically change the character of these sports…that tennis players would begin to think that a winner struck with scintillating speed would score three points instead of one.

That is a reason I prefer to watch the effortless swings of women golf pros vs. the grip it and rip it style of Bryson DeChambeuau who appears to be auditioning for THE LONG DRIVE contest.

Bottom line is that there are five dimensions to most tennis strokes and they are in a specific order for a reason. ..consistency, direction, depth, spin, and power.

Respect for this order creates better players.

Voltaire would respect the coach who came up with this order.

Here’s hoping the modern game still has room for Learner Tien and Ash Barty multidimensional players who are effortless instead of effort full.
