The mist rises from the South Platte River as a dozen Canadian geese take flight….ascending slowly and flying in formation from the chilly waters where they spent the night.
The Colorado Rockies are in the background with snow-capped peaks looking down from fourteen thousand feet. Drivers and their passengers are heading to work or school on another Monday morning in early November.
Do they notice the mist and the geese….the magnificent picture they create with their powerful wings and effortless flight as they cruise toward the wheat stubble fields nearby.
Or, as one suspects, are these people lost in daydreams thinking about the mundane day about to unfold.
I’m glad that today these glorious birds and the majestic Rockies have captured my attention.
We’re blessed to live in Colorado….blessed to have the mountains so near to remind us of the power of God.
The geese and the river spark the desire to register for the nature walk that will take place in early spring.
Bald eagles nest in the trees near the river each April and the foxes and coyotes are on the prowl as rabbits scurry for cover.
Thank You, God for the chance to appreciate the many wonders of Your creation….thank You for not allowing trivial thinking to obscure the beauty of the world right outside our windows.
Thank You for the possibility to choose memorable over mundane.
May the eagle inspire in us the belief that we too can soar above the mist and the gentle waters of the river.
