A group of super tennis players compete for ninety minutes of doubles every Friday. They race around the court with the excitement of third graders at recess. Frequently, spectators will hear Marcela exclaim, ‘C’mon!’ following a particularly great shot…..and marvel at Natasha’s speed and Marty’s shotmaking.
What is refreshing to see is how appreciative all sixteen players are of the efforts and skill of everyone else. One other unique characteristic of this group is that every week eight or more spend another ninety minutes laughing like the recess kids as they share iced tea and adult beverages.
We’ve never taken a poll, but it’s a distinct possibility that these 180 minutes are the most enjoyable moments of the week. There are a number of other groups who punctuate their on court play with post match revelry that’s similar to the 19th hole for golfers.
Undoubtedly, these players would recommend this social aspect as the perfect finale to chasing that mesmerizing yellow ball for three sets. As Marcela says,’C’mon!’
