Out of this World

Sally suggested we take a road trip today to tour The Olympic and Paralympic museum in Colorado Springs.

It was quite an experience with terrific memorabilia from The Miracle on Ice to Mary Lou Retton and Simone Biles, to Wilma Rudolf and Jesse Owens and his four gold medals in Munich in 1936.

The highlight by far was listening to long jumper Bob Beamon talk about his gravity defying record in 1968 of 29 feet 2 and 1/2 inches. His record has not been touched since then and likely never will be broken unless jumpers are equipped with wings or shot from a cannon.

How stunning to see his picture in the air with the distance laid out on the floor beneath.

One other amazing sight was the surprise torch lighter at  the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. The Greatest…Muhammad Ali was chosen and the crowd went berserk when he lit the torch.

It’s a memorable trip and only an hour from most parts of Denver.
