Wish I’d met you, Mr. James

A very young cowboy viewed a somewhat dated fishing video yesterday featuring a well known guide and author Ian Colin James.

He and another angler were fishing streamers in very low water in Canada. Mr. James was utilizing a technique I’d never seen before.

I decided to try to find him online to forward a question about his method.

Unfortunately, this wonderful guide with a great sense of humor, had passed away in 2015.

A tinge of sadness came over me when I read of this fellow angler’s passing…his boundless enthusiasm hopefully carried forward by fellow guides and students.

Later, I thought that he’s now been gone for over 1,800 days.

It made me consider how important every day is on the river…every day with family and friends and students.

We really have no idea how many days we’re allotted so best fill them with as much enthusiasm, laughter and gratitude as possible.

I tried to find his book…Fumbling with A Fly Rod…Stories from The River, but the library could not get it.

I’m going to check online because it is supposed to feature many fumblers like myself who make silly mistakes hoping to learn and get a bit better each day..
