Horatio Spafford wrote one of the most memorable songs in history. He was a successful lawyer in Chicago in the mid 1800’s. He and his wife Anna had a son and four daughters. They tragically lost their son at a young age and Spafford eventually scheduled a family trip abroad to help recover. Mr. Spafford had to attend to some business and sent his wife and daughters ahead. The cross Atlantic voyage became tragedy number two. The ship collided with another and all four daughters were lost at sea. On his journey across the ocean to console his grieving wife, the devastated husband and father wrote ‘It is well with my soul.’
