A very young cowboy was teaching a tennis singles drill today on two courts.
At one point, he put his hand on the nearest fence post not knowing the surprise that awaited him. Two seconds later, there were six wasps on his right hand and fifteen other mad bombers circling the poor fella. He reflexively swung his hand wildly and luckily did not get stung. Dodging the other angry wasps was quite a sight to see, I’m sure. The incident reminded me of one twelve years ago at Kent Denver High School in Denver. The coach had the boys team run four laps around the courts to get warmed up. Nearing the 3/4 mark of their first lap, the leader stepped on a hornet’s nest behind court 3. The hornets were enraged. They came out of the ground with the vengeance and forty boys were waving their arms and trying not to get stung. Poor Zach Greenberg was not lucky that day. He got stung a dozen times and others were stung multiple times as well. I guess the youngster today was pretty fortunate indeed.
