It’s clear, that in this season of water restrictions, we don’t see nearly the number of water sprinklers as in previous years.
Yesterday, I did see a sprinkler trying valiantly to bring a parched patch of grass back to life. This turf has been assaulted daily by record setting high temperatures and unrelenting sun. Driving by, I opened the window and it was almost like one could hear ‘Aaaahhhh’ coming from the blades of grass as they were blessed by sweet relief.
In a dream last night, a kindly looking older gentleman was sitting in a chair near my bed.
Waiting patiently for my astonishment to abate, he spoke first and said ‘Hi, my name is Roger.’ I only have a few minutes and was advised to ask about that sprinkler you saw yesterday…the one that was bringing new life to that beleaguered, worn out grass.
‘Could you ever imagine yourself being, like that sprinkler, one with the ability to spread hope into the hearts of those who are in a drought season of life with little hope of relief?
Before I could answer, he stood up and said, ‘I must be leaving now and will check back with you in a couple of days.’
I drifted off to sleep and at dawn awoke to the sound of our sprinkler system coming to life.
Hmmm…a coincidence?
Later that day, a friend asked if I could wrote a note or poem for a good friend who had to put her dog down the day before.
That’s a start. A little bit of comfort for a grieving family.
But so much more to do…so many chances to be a continuous stream of support to struggling souls in need.
Just one a day would be more than a start…it would be a campaign that could make Roger smile.
