The 17th. Hole at The Bay Hill Golf Club is a 238 yd. par three over water. Years ago, Arnold Palmer was playing with friends when his caddie nicknamed Tomcat suggested that a three iron was the appropriate club. Arnie played the three iron and it was heading right at the pin before it plopped into the lake. His playing partners were giving The King a hard time when he said, ‘laugh as much as want, I’m going to make par the hard way.’ To make par, he would need to hole his next shot. Palmer dropped a ball and asked Tomcat to give him the two iron. The ball soared straight and true and landed just beyond the water on the green. The Maxfli rolled right into the hole as friends watched in awe. If anyone tries to tell you that Arnie was just a golfer with a homemade swing…just tell them about The Legend of Bay Hill and his par made ‘the hard way.’
