The Abbreviated Serve

Most people believe that Andy Roddick started this serve and surely he achieved the best results with it.

He’s kind of like Dick Fosbury who revolutionized high jumping with The Fosbury Flop.

These days you’re seeing more and more of it with player like Caroline Garcia and Belinda Bencic adopting this motion.

It’s reported that Roddick was experimenting with it one day and discovered he could gain velocity and stayed with it.

It proved to be a wise decision as Andy won The US OPEN in 2003 and his top serve was clocked at 155 mph.

Brian Sullivan was a State Champion for Cherry Creek High School and used the abbreviation motion in warmups as it was simpler and effective in building consistency right from the first serve.
