Vicki, Grace, and friends play doubles every Thursday morning
on court four at the bubble near downtown Littleton
Some might call it “senior” doubles
but every week I’m amazed as
Grace blasts her topspin forehand
past opponents who look on in wonder
She races around the court like she’s
in her thirties and gets to drop shots
that seem impossible
This morning, Surilda Hayes retreated
for an overhead and hit a Federer-like
skyhook for a clean winner
I had to raise my hands overhead and
applaud while wondering how an over sixty plus
player could conjure up this shot in a millisecond
and then lob it into the corner beyond the reach
of her dumbfounded friend
