Remember this name…Kayla Day. The lefty is 5 ft. 8 in. and hails from Santa Barbara, California. The seventeen year old was ranked 175 in the world coming into The BNP Paribas Open.
She defeated Australian Open semi finalist Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in the first round and played valiantly in a three set loss to former French Open champion Garbine Muguruza in the second round.
This kiddo has it all. Big lefty serve coupled with great ground strokes and the quickness to cover the court. She loves the big stage…and the big points.
Here’s hoping she retains her belief and love for tennis. Right now, she appears to be the bright light in U.S. Women’s tennis moving forward. What a treat US OPEN fans will have later this year as she plays on Arthur Ashe Stadium Court.
