Introspection

By Mike Hall, March 2, 2020

These thoughts on journaling are from the book Stillness is the key by Ryan Holiday.

Michael Foucault called journals a weapon for spiritual combat…a way to practice philosophy and purge the mind of agitation and foolishness and to overcome difficulty. To silence the barking dogs in your head. To prepare for the day ahead and to reflect on the day that has passed. Take note of the insights you’ve heard.

Take the time to feel wisdom flow through your fingertips and onto the page.

Julia Cameron says journaling is like spiritual windshield wipers.

Instead of carrying around baggage in our heads or hearts, we put it down on paper.

Rather than letting racing thoughts run unchecked or leaving half-baked assumptions unquestioned, we force ourselves to write and examine them.

Spiritual windshield wipers…what a terrific image.

Ryan’s book is excellent and an easy read.
