A quiet neighborhood is stunned at what took place on Monday afternoon. We pray for those injured and all who knew and loved Doc Ken. His selfless act of heroism is no surprise as his office manager stated after his untimely death. Doc is with his beloved son Taylor and daughter Kendall who showed the same courage as their soft spoken and devoted dad. May this community long remember and hold close to our hearts the good Doc who risked everything to help a neighbor in need.
Tonight, four hundred neighbors, friends, and patients came together to honor Dr. Ken Atkinson. Young children played on the jungle jim while Anthony read from Psalm 119 and the people then sang Amazing Grace. Seven days ago, a young cowboy had an appointment with the good doctor. He took forty minutes when he could have easily finished in half the time. I heard that Doc was planning on retiring in a couple of years. I hope he realized how many people he touched. Hundreds of families mourn his passing today and one neighbor captured in lights how everyone feels about Dr. Ken.
