My wife and I were in Phoenix in 1984 to watch The Fiesta Bowl junior tennis tournament.
There were players from many states and plenty of them had sectional and national rankings.
At one of the clubs, we noticed a crowd of spectators watching a 10 and under boys match. We decided to have a look.
It was immediately apparent why the crowd was there. A little pipsqueak with a ginormous Wilson racquet was hitting shots that were incredible. If they’d have charged admission, we would have gladly paid.
I’m guessing this picture was taken four years or so before he dazzled us.
I contend to this day that this future Hall of Famer could (at age 10) have held his own with most Men’s 5.0 players.
Can you name this player?
