She’s a little pixie…this 8 year old.
Eleanor seems to possess an innate respect for good form on the tennis court.
Recently, we tried to expand her skills on the two handed backhand.
I showed her how to hold the racquet choked up in her significant other hand (Welby Van Horn) and to toss the ball up, grab with her right hand and play the shot.
As we hoped, her right hand naturally assumed a continental grip and “voila”….with a beautiful swing, she produced more topspin than we’d seen in the past.
Many novices her age have less potent bh minus the spin as they do not employ a nudged (continental) grip with the lower hand.
Teaching them to toss and grab with a continental grip is kind of a no brainer to introduce topspin because the hand naturally grabs with this spin friendly grip.
