Dancing Lessons

By Mike Hall, September 29, 2026

The year was 1963 and The Arthur Murray Dance Studio opened up

just a few blocks away from our home in Prairie Village, Kansas.

My parents obviously determined that baseball and basketball were insufficient in

keeping me busy so they, without my approval, signed me up.

How to accurately describe the experience came to me this morning before dawn.

If you forced me to have brussel sprouts for breakfast ninety days in a row

to avoid this torture, count me in.

I despise brussel sprouts and used to slip them under the table at dinner until

our dog passed away after consuming four of them.

Do I envy Clyde and Doris (pictured here) who were in my class, began dating, and

competed in national dance contests after marrying? Not on your life.
