Beware roosters

Leoti, Kansas is a small farming community southeast of Sharon Springs. The pheasant hunting was pretty outstanding years ago when Al Sigman and his boys would make the three and a half hour trip from Denver.

Floyd Harberts, Tom Flaming, and Rich Block were all good tennis players with the eye hand skills to make the day mighty unpleasant for the roosters that rose in their vicinity.

Normally, we would arrive early Friday and hunt for two and a half days before heading back.

There was always a tinge of sadness leaving the corn and wheat fields behind even though all of us were dead tired.

Most folks believe the scenery in western Kansas is awfully drab but often there’s a Sunday sunset that’ll change your mind in a hurry.

The chicken fried steak is mighty good too.
