Astonishing

There was a new priest today who celebrated Christmas Mass. He was excellent and warmly received by the overflowing crowd who was there.

A very young cowboy decided to arrive early and checked out a neat little book from the library entitled The Shepherd’s Prayer by Richard Barry. It was amusing that he cited the same two prophecies that were mentioned in my morsels of yesterday.

Anyway…back to the priest and his homily today. He framed the sermon around the words ‘audacious and astonishing.’ The message was that, with the commercializations of Christmas, these words and their relationship to This Day had been pushed under the carpet.

It made this youngster think more about the prophetic pronouncements in The Great Book.

Some experts say there are more than 300 Old Testament prophecies that were eventually fulfilled by The One born in the stable.

Here’s how a noted mathematician describes it.

Imagine that someone took silver dollars and stacked them two feet high so that they covered every square inch of Texas. The person marked one with a red dot. She said that the chances that one person in history could fulfill even 8 of the prophecies would be equal to a person finding the marked silver dollar on the first try.

The priest was right…Astonishing!
