A tough day at school

By Mike Hall, November 5, 2015

John Montgomery is a freshman in high school.

His girlfriend of three months broke up with him today and wants to see other guys.

He wonders if it was something he said…..or did…..or failed to do.  John thought everything was going great and now feels that his heart has been hijacked. He could not bring himself to go to soccer practice today and studying for tomorrow’s math test is out of the question.

This freshman is like a lot of kids his age who feel there is no one they can talk to….no one who sees through the mask he now wears to suppress the pain. John’s eyes used to shine but they have lost their glow.

In a perfect world, a parent, friend, coach, or teacher would sit with him and help the young teen open up.

We don’t always live in a perfect world and there are hundreds of John’s who have no one to turn to and……who must try to figure things out by themselves…..try to somehow reclaim the spirit that their friends used to know.

The moral of the story……boys have emotional valleys and too often try to wade their way through them alone because they’re supposed to be tough.
