The first line of The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck is, ‘Life is Difficult.”
Once you graduate from the swinging on swings…….the flying of kites…… and Chucky Cheese birthdays, it becomes apparent that Mr. Peck was right.
There is difficulty in the lifting of weights, the climbing of cliffs, the raising of kids, and the paying of bills.
The inevitability of difficulties doesn’t make all of life a pain…….and…..just maybe…..the pains help us appreciate all the good that comes from getting in shape, reaching summits, and helping children find themselves and live out their dreams.
Today, I was rolling down Prince St. in my CRV when I noticed a fella in a wheelchair rolling down the sidewalk toward downtown Littleton. I wondered if I would be mindful later when I climbed the same hill of how lucky I am…….of how difficult it will be for the man in the wheelchair to ascend the same hill that seemed so easy in the morning..
May you take a deep breath if misfortune visits today…..remembering that this too shall pass.
