Second Fiddle

My wife is a member in good standing of a group of friends called The Ta Ta’s.

They have met for movies and dinners for over twenty-five years.  The group also has spent weekends in Vail, Carmel, Cabo, and Scottsdale.

Husbands are excluded from these expeditions kind of like wives aren’t usually invited to male poker games either.

Three years ago, a number of Ta Ta’s even made a trip to France.  On all of these adventures, these women laugh louder and much more frequently than when isolated with their ‘stoic’ spouses.

It has been rumored that wine and martinis play a major role in these rollicking good times.  Sally and I had a wonderful trip to Lake Tahoe recently where Ta Ta Peggy’s son Brandon got married to Amanda.

It was Ta Ta heaven as they all danced the night away.  On our return trip to Denver, I mentioned to my wife that we should book a February trip to Mexico.  She said ‘sorry honey…..that would be impossible….the Ta Ta’s are going on our annual trip to Cindy’s place in Cabo.’

This very young man took it in stride with the understanding that playing second fiddle to such a fun loving group has now become the new normal.  I guess I can just stay home in Denver and watch re-runs of Gilligan’s Island and The Fugitive.  Who knows, maybe I’ll go to the new Tom and Chee restaurant while Sally’s gone……just love those grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup.

Sally has assured me that things do not get out of hand on these trips.  I have recently seen some pictures on Facebook that make me wonder.

That red wine seems to transform these ladies and I guess the husbands had just better get used to it.
