My friend suggested a fly fishing lesson when I mentioned that the novice level is where I feel stuck right now.
He recommended I call the friendly folks at Alpine Anglers and speak to Darren.
The lesson was scheduled and I was happy when Darren seemed to have the patience of Job. He taught me a couple of simple knots called The Davy and The Triple Surgeon’s knot. Both of these will make this very young cowboy a much more efficient angler.
As we made the fifty mile trip to Deckers, Darren asked if I had ever fished with a two fly rig that features a large and often rather gaudy fly on the surface and a smaller nymph trailing below. I told him I’d like to learn it as I’d read quite a bit about it.
Darren said you might be surprised by how the Attractor fly stimulates the fish and to be ready for a surprise.
After three hours using this system, I can now say I’m ‘hooked’ on it.
I mean, wouldn’t you be?
