Who could fault Jimmy for his aggressiveness in going all out on this volley? As former American Idol judge Randy Jackson would say, ‘Dawg, you are surely in it to win it!’
If you examine this photo closely, you’ll understand why a very young cowboy cautions players not to play high volleys too far in front. It’s pretty apparent that Jimmy’s contact point is so far forward that the ball will find the tip of his racquet and land in the net.
His arm is already ramrod straight and he has nothing left to provide some pop to the volley.
So, the next time you play, remember that low volleys should be played in front but the high ones later…more adjacent to the front shoulder to ensure sweet spot contact and less of the tendency to hit down.
Please mimic Jimmy’s gung ho attitude…but play the ball at a more favorable position.
