Oh sure, I’d like you to think that this very young cowboy is skilled enough to catch this gorgeous rainbow. Truth is, a rookie like me has to be content with the seven inch brown trout caught yesterday on The South Platte River. He fought like the one pictured here and slipped merrily back into the stream after being hoodwinked by a black ant dry fly. As the sun set over the mountains, this youngster was startled by fifteen deer feeding in the grass and sipping from the river. We stared at each other without moving except for the occasional twitching of their ears. I’d say a feisty brown, an amazing sunset, and friendly deer make for a memorable day.
