Dear Poppy,
I just wanted to write and tell you a few things I’ve never shared in person. This first semester is both exciting and daunting….so much work and so many temptations to let the schoolwork take a back seat to party time.
I’m so grateful you are my dad. I’ve never had anyone challenge me to go further, do more, be better, and squeeze more into every day than you have. You taught me to set my sights higher that I ever imagined, and that through hard work and dedication I could accomplish anything.
I owe many of the the successes in life to you, your example, and your unwavering belief in me. Although it must have been completely exhausting work for you, I can honestly say it was inspirational.
Your love is the foundation that keeps me going when things get tough. When I was rejected in high school and kids gave me that look that said, “you really don’t fit,” it was you who dried my tears and took me out for Cold Stone. I know how often you passed on your weekly golf game to see my soccer and volleyball games…..how you willingly drove to Loveland or Colorado Springs when you could have left it all to mom. Those times were the glue that kept our family knit together like a glove.
I want you to know dad that you have been like a lighthouse to me…..your love for mom and us and your unbending spirit has created the life we enjoy today and kept us from drifting off course.
Thanks Poppy…..I need to go study for my first World Civ test.
Love ya,
Lauren
