The Present

R i g h t  h e r e … R i g h t  n o w

Close your eyes and whisper it slowly in your mind

Join the words with two long and cleansing breaths

Exhaling more slowly than ever before

Whisper it again

And slower, yes, slower still

R i g h t  H e r e …………. R i g h t  N o w

It’s really all we’ve got

Why we’re so attracted to the hecticity of the world

is anyone’s guess

Oh, I know, you won’t find the word hecticity in Webster’s book

Yet, anyone with children or deadlines knows it should be there

It’s that state of constant motion that pushes us like an electric current

until finally talking on the cell phone while driving is just too much

We were wired to be

R i g h t  H e re ……….. R i g h t  N o w

Not flitting around the future and the past like a bumble bee from bush to bush

Not racing round like the rabbit from yard to yard

So when hecticity envelops you and you’re racing to and fro

Just take two long and cleansing breaths

And whisper in your mind

Who knows, you might enjoy two more of those deep, relaxing breaths

Realizing that what’s important is just

R i g h t  H e re ……… R i g h t  N o w
